Happy Birthday Jake!!
February 28, 2008
I love Jake because:
He makes me laugh
He is so obedient
His smile is contagious
He wants to be good
He listens to me (for a 2-year old)
He is patient
He is easy going
I can still feel his closeness to Heavenly Father
His sincerity
He's funnier than ever
He has a wormy smile that gets him out of trouble all of the time
He thinks he is funny
He is a nice boy
We had a great time on Jakey's birthday! The kids were so excited to open presents (almost like Christmas) that they woke up bright and early. They were a little disappointed when I told them that they had to wait for their daddy. (I decided to let him open one of the three to help with the disappointment.) We then rushed off to Hailey's basketball game, which was definitely fun! After her game, the rest of the day was spent together as a family. We played at the park, ate dinner at White Water Pizza, and came home for cake and ice cream! It was a packed day full of family fun!

Jake wanted to sleep with the girls, and since it was his birthday, I couldn't say "no". It only lasted for a little while, but it was cute while it lasted.

KRISPY KREME
February 27
Heather Pruett and I were husbandless, so we decided to take our kids on an outing to Krispy Kreme Donuts. We had a great time watching the donuts on the conveyor belt, and just spending time with good friends!

Happy Valentine's Day
February 14, 2009
The girls and I wanted to surprise Bryan with a "heart attack" on his office door. Since he was sitting at his desk when we arrived at his work, we had to convince a good friend, Nick Tobler, to lure him away. Once he had been successfully lured away, we quickly attacked his door, and then we slipped into his office to await his surprised return! After a good laugh, we "kidnapped" him from all work! We ate a picnic in his work conference room, and then we hurried out to a matinee. After the matinee, we went miniature bowling. We had a fun-filled family day!

Valentine Day Traditions
This year we started a few traditions for Valentine's Day....
Tradition #1
A scripture tree count down. We decorated a tree with Valentine ornaments and scripture tags. The tags each had a scripture about "loving one another". Each morning we read a scripture, and then we talked about how we could show more kindness throughout the day. We also tried to remember to pray for more charity. Here are the scriptures we read each day:
John 13:34-35
A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
Matthew 5:44
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
1 John 2:10
He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
1 John 3:23
And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
1 John 4:20
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
1 Peter 1:22
Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto
unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
Mosiah 18:21
And he commanded them that there should be no contention one with another, but that they should look forward with one eye, having one faith and one baptism, having their hearts knit together in unity and in love one towards another.
D & C 88:123
See that ye love one another; cease to be covetous; learn to impart one to another as the gospel requires.
Ephesians 4:32
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
Romans 12:10
Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
Tradition #2~Sock Countdown
I made an advent calendar with Valentine's Day socks. Inside each sock was a task of some sort, or a treat. I really enjoyed this tradition. It was a great way to talk about charity, and gratitude. Here is the list of messages inside our socks:
~Roses are Red
Violets are blue
Love is caring
Think of a kind deed to do
~Mail a letter to someone expressing to them how much you love them!
~“Charity Never Faileth!” Heart attack a family near you. (We did this for FHE.)
~“Charity Never Faileth!” Make and deliver sugar cookies to a family near you! (We did this for FHE.)
~Focus on saying only positive and nice things today! When a negative comment slips, quickly correct yourself, and start fresh.
~Decorate the house with love! (We decorated with window cling ons, and hearts.)
~You are sweet! (They got a piece of candy.)
~Elder Eyring once said that if we would write down what the Lord has done for us each and every day, then we would draw closer to our Heavenly Father, and we would be able to see more clearly what the Lord would have us to see. Journal what the lord has done for you today. (I gave my kids $1 journals from Micheals.)
~Family time is cherished-play a game with your family today!
~“Gratitude creates the most wonderful feeling. It can resolve disputes. It can strengthen friendships. And it makes us better men and women.” (and children) Make an effort to say “thank you” today. ~quote by President Hinckley
~President Hinckley admonished us to “be true. Be true to who you are. Be true to the parents who are rearing you and caring for you. Be true to the family name you bear.” Think about what it means to “be true” and draw a picture or write your feelings in your journal.
~
President Hinckley admonished us to “be humble”. Remember that “everything you have—your time, your talents and skills, your health and energy, your accomplishments, and your very lives—come as free gifts from you Father in Heaven.” Say a prayer thanking your Heavenly Father for your blessings.
~The scriptures say, “Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) Take time to sit by yourself and think about who you want to become, and how you can do that.
~A Gift to you…because I love you
Tradition #3 Secret Post Office
We started a secret post office for the month of February. Each child had a red mailbox, and card making materials. The point of the secret post office was to encourage the kids to write cards of appreciation to each other. (Bryan and I had an envelope taped to our door, so we could also be included.) I had a great time leaving small messages to my children, and they loved checking their mailboxes every day for new messages. It really was a fun tradition to start! Here are some of the cards that Bryan and I received (Jake was too small to participate):
Hailey wrote this message to me. It says, "Mom, you are like the sun bright leads the family just like the sun leads the day. This is the experience I thought of. But remember you are like the sun."
Talk about melting my heart!!!
Here is a message Hailey wrote to her daddy. It reads, "Dad, liked the letter oh I love you as a Dad you are so nice Love, Hailey!"

We had so much fun on Bryan's birthday!! Here is what we did...
At noon, Amber and I "surprised" daddy with "over the hill" balloons. (It really wasn't a surprise, we have been doing it for years.)
We then went to deliver toys to The Ronald McDonald house. (We did a toy drive party for Amber's birthday just two days prior.) It was an awesome experience watching Amber give to others. We all felt so blessed...it was definitely a high light to our day! Bryan, Amber, Jakey, and I got a VIP tour of the facilities, and Amber got to see firsthand what her giving meant to others. I am so grateful for the Christlike attributes of children...they truly can teach us how to live!
Amber just received a letter from The Ronald McDonald House thanking her for donating her birthday presents!
After daddy got home from work, we went to White Water Pizza for dinner. We had a great time eating pizza and enjoying each others company!
Jakey's way of eating. Shove and chew.

Happy birthday, Bryan!! I love you with all my heart!!!

Happy Birthday Amber!!!!
February 7, 2009
We spent Amber's birthday in Idaho Falls, and we had a great time!! We woke up bright and early, and opened Amber's first present...a leapster 2. We then rushed to Piper's baptism, which was an awesome highlight to the day! We had pizza for lunch with "root beer floats" to substitute for a birthday cake. The afternoon was spent playing games, and spending time as a family. Later in the afternoon, Grandma took Amber shopping at a specialty girl store, and then we rushed off to a movie. It was an awesome day full of laughter!
I love Amber because:
She thinks of others
She loves to serve
Her smile warms my heart
She wants to be like Jesus
She plays with Jacob
Her ability to be peacemaker
She is witty
Her smile brightens the room
She has the ability to make others feel good
She skips wherever she goes
She knows she is special
She tries her best at everything she does
She has a determination to do what is right
If she puts her mind to something, she has the ability to succeed

During the day, Jakey found a bag of chips ahoy cookies...We named him our little "Cookie Monster"!
Jakey finding the bag....

Jakey eating the contents of the bag, and hoarding his stash (thinking don't you dare take my cookies!!!)...
Jakey unwilling to share with Aunt Roxanne....

Jakey cracks me up!! He does the same thing with his toys. Hopefully I will eventually be able to teach him the rewards of sharing.
(I wish I had a picture of Piper's baptism. I forgot to bring my camera to the church!)
February 8, 2009
We drove home on Sunday, and opened Amber's second present with Daddy. She got the Tag learning system, which she loves!
Bull Sale
February 6, 2009
We drove to Idaho Falls to support my family with the Elkington Polled Hereford Annual Bull Sale! It's a big event for my family! My family prepares for this event for months. All of the bulls have to be washed, semen tested, tagged, and health checked. Besides preparing the bulls, my dad spends months sending fliers, calling bull buyers, and advertising for the event. He also rents bleachers, and prepares the barn to hold all the bull buyers. Every year for as long as I can remember, my parents have fed the bull buyers hamburger gravy over baked potatoes for lunch. They have also provided cookies, and donuts for the buyers to eat while they searched the corals for the particular bull they want to buy. Therefore, food preparations begin a few days before the event. My parents order donuts, and root beer. Neighbors cook potatoes, and cookies while mom prepares the gravy (along with cookies and potatoes as well). Finally on the day of the sale, bull buyers arrive early, and begin searching out their desired bulls (and heifers). Food is prepared and placed on banquet tables ready to be served. At 12:00 pm the auctioneer begins the sale, and within hours--it is over! This is how I grew up...on a ranch raising cattle. I wouldn't trade it for the world! Sometimes I wish I could give my children the same learning experiences my parents gave to me by simply living on a ranch....

Here is a picture of a bull being sold at the auction.
Another shot of the sale!
After the sale, my dad always takes the whole family out to dinner. Hailey got a bit crazy with the "all you can eat dessert bar"!
