December 7 & 14

GYMNASTICS
Miss Amber loves gymnastics. She thrives on the hard work and discipline it takes to perform the various events. This season has not only been a physical battle, but a mental battle as Amber worked to maintain her mental strength even when events did not go as she would have liked. There were many times when Amber had to shake off an event in order to be prepared to compete in the next event. At times she was able to do just that, but there were also times when she couldn't let go of a mishap. We've talked about how this correlates with our own lives'--how we must learn from our mistakes, but to dwell on our mistakes will only pull us down--how we must be willing to pick ourselves up, seek the Lord's help, and persevere.

These events were in December. Amber had several meets in which she competed in Bars, Vault, Floor, and Beam. Her least favorite event was the Beam; however, she consistently performed the best in this event (even though she didn't love it). Her favorite event was Vault. Amber placed 2nd in State for her Vault. (Those pictures will be posted in March.)

SLEEP STUDY

Jacob tried so hard to be brave. He kept talking himself through his fears, but still... I could see the fear in his eyes. I kept reminding him that all he had to do was sleep. That's it. Just sleep. Jacob has had trouble breathing for a long time. This study was going to give us some needed answers as to Jacob's well-being while sleeping. Although Jacob understood that this was a needed procedure, I still think the fear of the unknown was difficult for him.
They gave Jacob a stuffed bear to help comfort him. When we got home, he asked me to throw it away. He didn't want to see the bear ever again. I tried to convince him that it was fun--a memory, but he wanted nothing to do with it. It reminded him of his fear in the hospital. I am so proud of my little man for being so brave when is insides were so afraid.
The results of the test:
-He has respiratory distress 1-2 times a night; however, he still maintains a normal oxygen level, so there is no need to be concerned.
Conclusion:
-He has a mild sleep disorder.

The fear in his eyes breaks my heart.

Decorating Christmas Tree and Gingerbread Houses
We decided to do two major projects in one night. Mainly because Jacob's patience on making a gingerbread house had reached its limit. I was a bit worried that we were planning too much for one night, but in the end--I was grateful. In year's past, with both of these activities, I have felt that there has been a lot of waiting for turns. This year we were all utilized, and we accomplished both activities in one evening rather than two.

 Thanksgiving

At the Elkington's, we always go ice fishing on Thanksgiving. It's tradition. It's what I have done since I was a little girl. I actually can't remember a Thanksgiving when I wasn't on this reservoir.

Early Thanksgiving

We are blessed to spend time with both The Miller's and The Elkington's every Thanksgiving. Bryan's mom started a tradition called "Early Thanksgiving" so as to accommodate for both sides of the family. We feel so blessed to be able to share in our thankful hearts with both families.

Thankful Rolls

Grandma and Grandpa left early Christmas presents for the kids. These bags are full of coins that came from a huge glass jar at Grandma's house. She had the coins divided and gifted each grandchild with a bag. We were sad not to have Grandma and Grandpa with us, but we are grateful they are serving the Lord in Australia.

Young Women in Excellence
Hailey was able to complete two projects prior to YWIE--Knowledge, and Virtue. She has been on "fire" with personal progress. She is absolutely loving the program, and is learning so much!
